Q: Do you have a shuttle bus to pick us up at the station?
A: Yes, we do; please let us know the time of your arrival at Myokokogen Station in advance so we can be sure and be there to pick you up. For travel within the area, the free shuttle bus between the Akakura Onsen, Akakura Kanko, Ikenotaira and Suginohara ski areas leaves hourly (although the frequency may increase this year) from in front of the hotel; this is the most convenient way to travel through the area.
Q: We prefer to go out at night, rather than eat at the hotel every night. Is this possible?
A: Yes; in fact, for our international guests our basic style is bed-and-breakfast. Your room rate includes a good, solid Western breakfast of cereal, fruit, juice, coffee, etc., or Japanese style (let us know ahead of time). Most of our Japanese guests do stay in the hotel in the evening, so we serve a course dinner; just let us know in the morning before you leave the hotel, and we can prepare a course dinner for you as well. Also, we serve ala carte dishes (please see the
dining page) daily, so you can always make a last-minute decision about where you’d like to have your evening meal. If it’s snowing heavily, you might just like to stay with us in the dining room, or relax in the casual
izakaya pub area.
For those with special requests, please let us know in advance, so we can try and meet your needs.
If you prefer to dine at the hotel nightly, just let us know; it is also possible in this case to skip a meal for a dinner in town. In any case, just let us know; we want to give you the choice!
Q: Are restaurants, bars, etc. far away from the hotel?
A: There are a few in the immediate area, but most are in the town of Akakura, about 10-15 minutes’ walk away. There are other restaurants in Ikenotaira and in Myokokogen (the town area around the station) that require a short taxi ride. A map is available from the Myoko Tourist Office in
.pdf format that shows the whole area; you can also get a good sense of where we are on our
Access page—just zoom out on the map.
Q: We’ve heard that some hotels in Japan have curfews, or do not like people coming in late. What is your policy?
A: We do not close the hotel up at night; in fact, our onsen is available 24 hours a day! Just the normal respect for others is requested—but we have very few troubles with this. Enjoy your stay!
Q: Do you accept credit cards?
A: Yes, we do.
Q: We’re staying for more than a week. Do you have laundry facilities?
A: We have a washer and dryer, and can arrange for dry cleaning and professional laundry services as well (let us know in advance; next-day service is not usually possible). We also have a ski waxing and tuning table available.
Q: We’d like to see more of the area while we are in Japan. Is regional transportation available?
A: In the off-season we regularly take clients to Nagano City and other nearby areas in our own van, but, frankly, things are busy in the winter! While we might be able to provide transportation on weekdays, there are shuttle buses and bus tours organized by the Myoko Tourist Office to places like Nozawa, Shiga, Hakuba, Obuse, Nagano City and Zenkoji Temple and even to see the famous Snow Monkeys.
